Our Story

The Oyster Collection’s story is a story of coming home. Family-owned and family-run, our warm and inclusive ethos embodies everything we do, embracing every guest, establishment, and team member.

It all started in 2007, when Nic and Louise Poole bought the Oyster Box Beach House in Kenton-On-Sea, setting the foundation for the Oyster Collection. What started as a small venture has blossomed into a family of 15 exceptional properties, each with a unique story to tell. Over the years, they have worked with exceptional partners, carrying the same commitment to detail and experience. The collection is also committed to giving back to the communities where we operate, creating a positive impact that extends beyond the walls of our properties. None of this would be possible without the generous support of our treasured guests, who have enabled the Oyster Collection to make a meaningful difference.

An exceptional holiday experience

For Nic and Louise, creating an exceptional holiday experience is about much more than just providing luxurious accommodations. It’s about creating a sense of belonging and contentment, a feeling of coming home. The team strives to deliver a sense of “wow” to guests, along with a feeling of comfort and calm, and no desire to leave. Beyond the eclectic elegance that embodies the properties, the Oyster Collection’s defining characteristic is our love of welcoming discerning travelers as returning friends. The General Managers at all properties have a wealth of local experiences at their fingertips, advising guests on the best food, prettiest walks and picture-perfect wine-tastings. From a warm welcome and guest orientation to personalised interactions and booked itineraries, the Oyster Collection creates experiences that enhance the stay of each guest and make people’s travel dreams come true.

Each property has a unique story to tell. Yet, the consistent golden thread that binds them all, is the great importance placed on attention to detail, and their locations in carefully selected desirable destinations. From the beautiful seaside town of Kenton-on-Sea, flanked by rivers, to the majestic Camp Figtree perched on the mountain next to Addo Elephant Park, and the colourful boutique hotels in the heart of Franschhoek village, to Blackheath Lodge in one of the world’s most iconic cities, our properties are meticulously designed to embody the essence of their surroundings. Whether you’re staying in a luxurious hotel, guesthouse or vacation villa, every property features an eclectic touch that blends heritage design with local creativity and charm, infusing each space with vibrant hues and a distinct character that is unforgettable and authentic.

The Oyster Collection’s family of hotels epitomise the elusive factor that transforms a luxurious stay into a home away from home: the warm hospitality, sincere service, and unparalleled passion that are ingrained in every member of the team. Rooted in family values and a relentless pursuit of excellence, the collection’s unwavering commitment to infusing every experience with warmth and authenticity is palpable in every property and every guest. With every stay, the Oyster Collection strives to capture the same essence that inspired Nic and Louise to create the Oyster Box Beach House, all those years ago.
