Wildlife
While Addo is known for some of the best elephant viewing in the country, with more than 600 elephants in the park, the wider landscape supports far more than that. Cape buffalo, lion, spotted hyena, leopard, zebra, warthog, and antelope such as kudu, eland, bushbuck, and red hartebeest are all part of the broader wildlife picture.
You’ll find species such as Cape mountain zebra, mountain reedbuck, baboons, blue duiker, aardwolf, and red rock rabbit in the Zuurberg area, while the Sundays River below supports hippo and endemic fish species.Â
Even the smaller details matter. Addo’s rare flightless dung beetle is one of the park’s most distinctive species, so protected that road signs give it right of way.
Flora and Biodiversity
