Top Cape Town Cycle Tour Accommodation
Planning your Cape Town Cycle Tour accommodation starts well before race morning. With thousands of riders tackling the 109 km route each year, where you stay can make a big difference. You want somewhere calm before the race, practical on the day, and welcoming when you finish.
Blackheath Lodge in Sea Point offers exactly that balance. The Lodge places you within riding distance of the start and walking distance of the finish. On a weekend defined by timing, that clarity matters.
Prime Location for Cape Town Cycle Tour Accommodation
Location is crucial when it comes to choosing accommodation for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Staying close to the race start means less stress on race day, giving you more time to focus on your warm-up, preparation, and getting into the right mindset.
Convenient Access to Cycling Routes
You’ll find Blackheath Lodge on a quiet, tree-lined street in Sea Point, below Signal Hill. The V&A Waterfront and Green Point Stadium are nearby, and the Sea Point Promenade runs just down the road. On race weekend, that location keeps you close to the start and finish, but far enough away to return to a quiet street once the day is done.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour start at the Grand Parade is 3.6 km away. The most direct route follows High Level Road into the city centre, giving riders a straightforward roll down to the start pens.
The finish in Green Point is even closer. At under 2 km from the Lodge, most riders choose to walk back after collecting their medal rather than arranging transport. Supporters also benefit from being within easy walking distance of the finish area.
This wonderful Boutique Hotel is well located for Cape Town city centre, V and A waterfront and Camps Bay. Hidden away up a quiet street this little oasis provides a delightful retreat. The property has a lovely ambience throughout with comfortable clean modern rooms. The welcome and personal service provided by Raymond and his team is first class. Advice on restaurants and local attractions was excellent with the bonus of arranging bookings at top restaurants at short notice. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel so welcome. A nice pool area for relaxing and a high quality breakfast including cooked to order menu made for an excellent boutique experience. All the staff were helpful and friendly so a big thank you for a perfect 3 night stay. Simon B Alcester, United Kingdom
A Residential-Style Stay on Race Weekend
Blackheath Lodge originated as a private family home, constructed when Sea Point was still renowned for its residential character. The house was lived in as a home, designed around proportion, privacy, and everyday use rather than scale or formality. That layout continues to shape the lodge today.
There are 17 individually decorated rooms, which keep control numbers over busy weekends. Each room includes an en-suite bathroom and either a king or twin bed configuration. Some open onto private balconies, while others overlook the courtyard and pool.
Beds are dressed in high-quality percale linen. Bath essentials are provided, and daily housekeeping with evening turn-down service is a part of every stay. Most rooms include international adaptors, and where they do not, the team supplies them at no charge.
We stayed in Backheath Lodge for four nights and had one of the best experiences compared to all the 4* hotels we visited. This is not only for the tranquil atmosphere but most all because of the friendly, attentive and service oriented attitude of the staff. They literally make the extra step that distinguishes average from excellent. Special thanks and acknowledgment to Denzil and Rinalo who live up to these high standards. They live the brand, we would say. Keep up the excellent work and we definitely will come back. Gerard B, Netherlands
Villas for Groups Riding Together
For friends travelling to take on the Cape Town Cycle Tour as a group, Villa Gareloch and Villa Lauren offer a practical alternative to individual rooms while still providing access to the lodge’s services.
Villa Gareloch is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house located just across the road from the lodge. The property retains its original character, with high ceilings, bay windows, and wooden floors. Bedrooms can be configured as king or twin beds, which works well for teams travelling together. All principal rooms are air-conditioned, and beds are dressed in quality linen, with towels and robes provided.
Villa Lauren is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse situated within the lodge grounds. It offers a fully self-contained option for smaller groups who want shared space while remaining connected to the lodge. Guests have the privacy of a home alongside the structure and support of hotel services.
For groups coordinating race schedules, early mornings, and post-ride recovery, that shared layout can be easier than splitting across separate rooms.
Thoughtful Amenities at Blackheath Lodge
The morning after the Cape Town Cycle Tour is about recovery. Breakfast at Blackheath Lodge is served daily on the terrace or indoors, with home-baked pastries, seasonal fruit, and a full English option available. It is a proper sit-down start to the day once the early alarm is no longer required.
The lodge includes a heated saltwater pool, a guest lounge, and a bar, all contained within the property’s residential layout. The scale remains controlled even on a busy weekend.
Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout. Secure off-street parking is provided, and a full laundry service is available for guests who extend their stay. Around-the-clock service means there is always someone available should you need anything.
Power backup covers most of the hotel during intermittent electricity outages and load shedding.
We had THE BEST 4 days at the Blackheath Lodge. It was THE MOST INCREDIBLE experience the moment we stepped in. The ALL the staff are SUPER FRIENDLY. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a pleasant time there. The Hotel has a warm, welcoming atmosphere, so clean, so cosy. The property is BEAUTIFUL both inside and outside. Everyone takes pride in what they do. They serve a DELICIOUS breakfast daily with delicious options. The rooms are very cosy, comfortable and clean. I could clearly see that alot of thought and effort was put into it. Beautiful views from the balconies. The hotel is within close walking distance to the Seapoint promenade, the Waterfront with Table Mountain National Park as it’s “backyard” We were very sad to leave, but we will DEFINITELY be back. Beyond Race Day
The Cape Town Cycle Tour may be the anchor of the weekend, but it rarely ends there. Many riders choose to stay on for a few extra days. Once the pressure of race morning is gone, the city becomes easier to enjoy.
Here are a few ways to use that time well.
Take the Cable Car, Not the Hike
If your legs have done enough climbing for one weekend, skip the trail and take the cable car up Table Mountain. The ride takes about five minutes, and the rotating floor means you get a full view without moving. Walk the shorter paths at the top, take photos, have a coffee, and head back down. No heroics required.
Walk the PromenadeÂ
The Sea Point Promenade is flat, paved, and right along the ocean. It is ideal for loosening up stiff legs without committing to another serious effort. Stop for coffee along the way and keep it slow.
Drive Chapman’s Peak and See the Route from a Different Angle
Chapman’s Peak Drive is one of the most photographed stretches of road in the country. After riding parts of it the day before, seeing it by car gives you time to take in the views properly. There are multiple stopping points, so you can take your time.
Sit Down for a Proper Dinner
Race weekend is disciplined. The night after is different. Sea Point, Green Point, and the Waterfront offer everything from relaxed seafood spots to more formal dining rooms. Booking ahead is wise. The city fills up that weekend.
Add One Cultural Stop
Robben Island is worth the time if you have a half-day free. Tours are structured and departures are weather-dependent, so plan in advance. It adds context to Cape Town beyond the postcard views.
Visit the Beaches at Camps Bay and Clifton
Drive over to Camps Bay or Clifton for a day at the beach. Camps Bay has restaurants directly opposite the beach, so lunch and a swim can share the same afternoon.
Clifton’s smaller coves feel more contained and slightly quieter. The Atlantic water is cold. Properly cold. After 109 km on the bike, that might be exactly what your legs need. Consider it a natural ice bath with a better view.
Walk Through Bo-Kaap
Bo-Kaap is one of Cape Town’s most recognisable neighbourhoods, known for its brightly painted houses and cobbled streets. The area reflects the city’s Cape Malay heritage, and local restaurants serve dishes such as bobotie and koeksisters. It is compact enough to explore on foot without turning it into a full-day outing.
Book Your Stay Today!
The Cape Town Cycle Tour may be what brings you to the city, but it does not have to define the length of your stay.
Ride the route. Collect the medal. Then stay long enough to enjoy the coastline without a race number, sit down for a proper dinner without checking your start time, and see the places you cycled past at speed.
Blackheath Lodge places you within riding distance of the start and walking distance of the finish, in a property where privacy and personal service remain central, even on race weekend.
If you are planning your Cape Town Cycle Tour accommodation, speak to the team directly and build the weekend around more than one morning on the bike.
